Why we do it

Gospel

While many Swazis profess Christianity, the issue is not with lack of knowledge about the gospel but the inability to appropriate that which they know to be true. It seems tradition, rituals and manmade rules have preceded above the transformational power of the gospel.

Poverty

More than half of the population (59%) live in abject poverty, under $1.90 per day, and the country suffers from the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the world (in the age group 15 to 49, 27.2% live with HIV/AIDS (worldbank.org)

Abuse

1 in 3 females having experienced some form of sexual abuse by age 18 years, and 48 per cent of women reporting to have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. (eswatini.unfpa.org/) In addition to this, many struggle with life-controlling habits to numb the pain of poverty.

Hopelessness

One of the greatest issues is hopelessness. Hospitals frequently run short of medicine, inequality, unemployment is high as majority of the nation lives in rural areas. Jobs are limited and people want to give up.

Civil Unrest

July 1st, 2021, the country witnessed civil unrest, the first of this kind, where rioters took to the streets, buildings were burned down, people where harassed, cars were stoned and many died. Those involved were young adults attempting to bring change
